John Coleman, witness to this marriage, will be the husband of Sabrina Smith and William's brother-in-law.
|Death||He died on 4 June 1894 at age 70.|
|Burial||He was buried at Scotland Cemetery, Oakland Township, Brant County, Ontario.|
|Note||Death reg 001726-95 Burford Twp., Brant Co.|
William Smith died June 4th, 1894. Age 69 years 11 months. Farmer. Methodist. Born State of New York, U.S.A. Informant Sidney A. Smith. Registered June 26, 1895.
Looking at the registration, it's tempting to wonder if William's year of death was entered as 1894 in error. Looking over the adjacent registration, 1894 is at least reasonable, but, as well, a transcription of William's stone in Scotland Cemetery dates his death to June 4, 1894.
William and Hannah are with their children in Beverly Township in the census years of 1861, 1871, and 1881. By 1891 they are in Burford Township. A marriage registration for one of their daughter shows her residence at Burford in 1883 so the family was probably there by then.
William and Hannah are buried in Scotland Cemetery which is in Oakland Township. The village of Scotland straddles the township lines of Burford and Oakland.
