Note | He The 1883 Portrait and Biography Album for Mecosta County gives us a short biography of John M. Main. It places his birth in Waterloo County on Feb. 25, 1843. It goes on to say that at age 21, he rented a farm in Canada and there farmed for three years. He arrived in the U.S. at Detroit on Jan 10, 1866. He first located at Lakeview in Montcalm County, Michigan, where he engaged in lumbering for the winter. He then took up 100 acres at Millbrook Township in Mecosta County which was given to him by his father. Bureau of Land Management records indicate George Main purchasing two properties in Mecosta, so this is entirely possible. |
