NoteShe An Ellen Person appears in the 1861 census in Flamborough West, Wentworth County. She is shown as age 12 and is in the household of Jonathan and Anna Bowman. She is shown as being born in Upper Canada. Jonathan Bowman was an executor of Charles Person's will.

The 1940 census shows Ellen living with her son, James C. Cottrill at Daytona Beach, Volusia, Florida. She is not present at the time of the state census in 1945. A Florida death index, a transcription of which is provided by familysearch.org, confirms that Ellen died in 1944 in Volusia, Florida. No further information is given. It is evident from the inscription on the gravestone in Hamilton that Ellen was returned to Canada for burial.

Cottrill, at the residence of her son, James Cottrill, 633 Mulberry Street, Daytona Beach, Florida, Jan. 11, 1944, Ellen Person, widow of William Cottrill, aged 95 years. The interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery.
