James Vrooman

ID # 1449, (1829-)
FatherAdam Vrooman (1786-1854)
MotherElizabeth McCowan (1790-1869)
BirthJames Vrooman was born in 1829.
NoteHe James Vrooman, age 23, appears with his parents in the 1851 census at Moulton Township, Haldimand County. We may reseaonably believe him to be the James Vrooman that appeared as a witness in his parents' land transaction with his brother David in 1851.

Little has been found to locate James in later years. The one record that we may depend on is the 1891 census in Brooke Township, Lambton County. There, he is shown as 'nephew' to William and Mary A. Udell, both of whom are much younger than he. In this census, he is 60 and we must believe his age to be approximate. We are able to identify Mary Udell as Mary Ann Stover, the daughter of Jacob Stover and Ann Vrooman. Mary Stover Udell lived into her 90s and died in Ashland, Ohio, in 1933. While we have not been able to locate a marriage record for William and Mary, Mary's death registration clearly identifies her as the daughter of Jacob Stover and Ann Vrooman.

Thereafter, once again, James Vrooman is lost to any identifiable record, but he may be the James Vrooman that died in the Middlesex County House of Refuge on Oct 25, 1911. No parentage is shown in this death registration. The township of registration is Adelaide, but the doctor reporting was in Strathroy.
