His age is given as 23 and Polly's as 20. The marriage date is shown as 26 December, 1871, and as having taken place in Buchanan, Iowa. For the present, we have no further information. |

| Note | He David Laird is age 12 at the time of the 1860 census at Smelser Grove, Grant County, Wisconsin. He is present with his parents, Hugh and Nancy, Hugh not dying until 1862. By 1870, David is shown as a farmer and residing in Middlefield, Buchanan County, Iowa. He is 22 and with him is his brother George, age 19. The census was done in July and George is shown as having attend school within the year. David married Polly Risely of the same township and county on 26 December, 1871. She appears in the 1870 census in Middleton with her family, her parents apparently being Albert and Margaret Risely. She, her parents and older brother, are shown as being born in New York. Her younger siblings are shown as being born in Iowa, so it appears that her family came from New York State to Iowa between 1852 and 1857. In 1880, David and Polly are still in Middlefield, but by the time of the 1900 census, they are in Twin Lakes, Calhoun County, Iowa, and both are still residing there at the time of the 1930 census. A family connection provides David's death date as 22 May, 1940. This has yet to be confirmed. We do not know his place of death or his place of burial. |
