| Note | He The Niagara Falls marriage registration places Andrew Heaslip's birth in Wainfleet, Haldimand County. Andrew was born in approximately 1859. The townships that formed Haldimand County were, in earlier years, part of the Niagara District. By 1859, however, Wainfleet was in Welland County. Certainly, Wainfleet Township borders Haldimand County. At the time of Andrew Heaslip's marriage to Jessie Cole, he was a teacher. He was shortly thereafter to effect a career change. The Quinte Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society in 2010 published a paper, Physicians, by Dr. Donald Brearley. This was updated in 2012. It has short character sketches of physicians of the Belleville who graduated before 1910. A brief paragraph about Andrew Heaslip is provided. It states that he was a native of Welland, Ontario, who graduated from the University of Toronto's Medical School in 1892. He is said to have spent some time in the village of Hillsdale. Hillsdale is in Medonte Township, Simcoe County, and, indeed, he and Jessie appear in Medonte in the 1901 census. From there the vignette states that he moved to Picton where he was mayor and served on the hospital board. No record has as yet been found that Andrew and Jessie had children. |
