Shadrack is shown as a farmer. The informant was Dr. Campbell, who delivered the child, and he did not register the child's birth until February of 1874. Franklin Church, age 7, appears with his parents and siblings in the 1881 census in Gosfield North Township in Essex County. In 1891 he is shown as age 17, again with his family in Gosfield North, and he is shown as the first child born in Ontario, the earlier children being shown as born in England. Some care is needed with records for Frank Church, son of Shadrack. Shadrack's brother William had a son Frank and the two Franks were first cousins. Shadrack's Frank was in Essex County in later years; William's Frank was in Preston in later years and for some time ran a hotel. |
