Note | She Delores MacIntyre, in her book about the Lawrasons, states that Elizabeth Purvis was born in New Jersey. Looking over U.S. census records, such children as went to the United States place her birth in New Jersey, so we may treat this as confirmed. Delores quotes from a family letter written on February 13, 1848, and addressed to the law firm of Pardee and Garvy at Sarnia. It was evidently written by a lawyer and a copy given to the family to retain. There may have been two pages, but only one has survived: 'As to the information that you require, Elizabeth Lawrason, wife of Miller Lawrason and daughter of John Purvis of the Township of West Flamboro died 17th of August, 1834. I do not think that deceased left any will never having heard of such. She died suddenly of Asiatic Cholera; Her husband died Feb. 10th, 1847. There were nine children of these parents Viz John Lawrason the eldest child was born in the year 1793. The next in order are Thomas Lawrason, Annie Lawrason, Robert Lawrason, Lavenia Lawrason, James Lawrason, Larah(?) Lawrason, Joseph Lawrason, and Mary Lawrason.' Evidence has been found that Lawrence Pervis Lawrason is the Larah referred to in the letter. Delores' transcription of Elizabeth's stone provides the dates 1770-1834. |
