NoteShe Information for Anna comes from the inscription on her gravestone which reads: In Memory of Anna, daughter of William & Janet Carrick, who died March 17, 1858, age 1 year and 5 days.

A notice in the Dumfries Reformer records that William Carrick lost his youngest son on 16 March 1858. There is no recorded grave for such a son, however, and the Reformer does not mention a daughter. Unless information surfaces to the contrary, it will be guessed that the Reformer is in error and that this was Anna's death that is recorded. The youngest son at this time, so far as he is known, is Robert J. Carrick, and it would seem that he survived.

One other piece of information for Anna is her baptism. This appears on microfilm GS2987 First Church. It shows her baptism as Ann Carrick daughter of William Carrick of N. Dfs. It dates the baptism to April 26, 1857. A one word note has been entered under her name - dead. This is not dated. There is a book for deaths, but this does not appear to have been kept up for there are only two 1857 entries and no entries at all for 1858.

Mountview Cemetery had not been created when Anna died. She will have been buried elsewhere and either reinterred with family members in Mountview or it may be that she is simply commemorated on the stone.

When William and Jessie had a daughter in 1861, they gave the name Anna a second time. The 1851 census is no help, for it only refers to her as Mrs. Dickie. Looking over Mountview transcriptions however, it appears that Jessie's mother was Ann.
