Source: A transcription of 'A Register of Baptisms and Marriages, Gore and London Districts, by Rev. Ralph Leeming, 1816-1827, is provided by Bill Martin of Thunder Bay on his excellent web site. The pertinent marriage appears as follows:
James Jones, a bachelor, of the Township of Beverly, and Hannah
Goodale, a spinster, of the same place, were married by banns at
Ancaster on the 11th day of March, 1817.
|Death||She died on 10 October 1882 at Beverly Township, Wentworth County, at age 81.|
|Burial||She was buried at Troy Cemetery, Troy, Ontario.|
|Note||Death reg. 019372-82 Hannah Jones October 10, 1882, age 81 yrs and 9? widow, born Wentworth Co.|
Hannah's place of birth in her death registration is given as Wentworth County. Wentworth County did not exist, however, when Hannah was born in 1801 and neither did the Gore District. It is possible that she was born in the Copetown area, however while Copetown is in Beverly, the Copetown area would include Ancaster. In 1801, Beverly Township was in the Home District as was Ancaster. James and Hannah's marriage took place in Ancaster, but the record states that they were both residents of Beverly. For the present, this tree will show Hannah's birth as being in the Home District.
One other comment: Cornell's history of Beverly does not mention Goodales. He does mention an Ebenezer Goodhill living in the Copetown area in early days. Other researchers say that Hannah's father was Johnson Goodale and that her mother was Elizabeth Persall.
