Waterloo County Marriage Registrations

Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Robert Acheson, a minister of the U.P. Church of North America for the year ending 31st day of December, A.D. 1860/

Robert Young, 38, born Scotland, residing Beverly. Parents Wm. Young and Ann Roxford.
Elzb. Ferguson, 22, born and residing Beverly. Parents John Ferguson and Mary McVay.
Witnesses Arch. Ferguson, Dumfries
On 20 January 1860, by Robert Acheson.

Robert Acheson and the United Presbyterian Church (First Church) were located in Galt. Technically, Rev. Acheson should have filed this marriage with the registrar in Wentworth County. The county marriage registers do not typically show the location of the marriage, but Rosemary Ambrose has extracted marriage notices from the Dumfries Reformer (see Dumfries Reformer Marriages 1860-1865) and this shows the following:

From the 25 Jan 1860 edition of the Dumfries Reformer,
Elizabeth Ferguson married Jan. 20, 1860, to Robert Young in Beverly. The bride the eldest daughter of John Ferguson, farmer, Beverly.

DeathShe died on 2 April 1912 at Beverly Township.
BurialShe was buried at Section 4, Mountview Cemetery, Galt.
NoteShe Death reg. 033649-12 Beverly Twp., Wentworth Co.
Elizabeth B. Young died April 2, 1912. Born Sept. 1838, Scotland. Age 74 yrs., 6 mos. Farmers wife. Widow. Parents Robert Ferguson and Mary McVey, both born Scotland. Physician Adam Thomson, M.D. Informant Andrew McCleese, Sheffield.

Two errors in the above.
1) Elizabeth was born in Beverly, not Scotland. We may take this from her marriage registration.
2) Her father was John Fergusson, not Robert.

Mary and Robert are buried in the Young plot in section 4 of Mountview Cemetery. This appears to be contiguous to the Fergusson plot. It also includes Andrew Dickie and Ann Roxburgh, the parents of Elizabeth's sister-in-law, Ann Dickie Fergusson.
