GS2987 First Church (Presbyterian) Galt, Marriage Register

No. 53

After publication of banns in Dumfries
19th November 1838

Milo Smith and Leny Main, both of Dfs (Dumfries)
Witnesses George Main and Anne Main, both of Dfs.

The above may also by found on United Church of Canada microfilm LCM-30.

Anne Main was probably Margaret Ann/Anne Chandler, George Main's wife. It is possible that she was a sister of Ellen's, but a record for such a person has yet to be found. That she was George's wife is the more likely.

Rev. James Strang was the officiating clergyman. His church, First Church in Galt, was located in Dumfries Township and Rev. Strang probably did marry persons in their homes. Almost all early marriages on this reel, however, are located in Dumfries. At the time he may have been including Galt in this designation.
