William James Hilliard1

ID # 816, (1856-1948)
Descendants of John Coleman & Elizabeth Lawrason
William James Hilliard was born on 7 October 1856 at Windham Twp, Norfolk County, Ontario.1 He married Henrietta Moe, daughter of Henry Moe and Sarah (--?--), on 11 November 1885 at Malahide Twp, Elgin County, Ontario. (notes: William and Henrietta's marriage registration, 002706-85, at MalahideTownship in Elgin Co., shows his name as William James Hilliard. Somerecords show Hillard, but Hilliard appears to be correct. Her name isshown as Nettie Moe, age 19. Her birthplace and residence is shown asMalahide. This is likely incorrect for birth place, but further research may show otherwise. She is said to be the daughter of Henry and Sarah Moe. The witnesses are Minerva Moe of Calton (possibly the wife ofher brother James, though this remains to be seen) and Annie...illegible...I can't even guess. William is said to be Presbyterian and she is said to be Baptist. The minister's name is illegible.).1 He died in 1948.1 He was buried at Bookton Cemetery, Windham Twp, Norfolk County, Ontario.1 Ref. MS451 Reel 109, transcription of Bookton Cemetery available at The Archives of Ontario.
According to a transcription of the Hilliard grave marker, William married again after the death of Henrietta. His second wife was Cathy Parker and she lived from 1867 to 1950.

William's birth year on the stone is 1851. The birth year 1856 is from a census. The grave stone is more likely correct.

Comparing the 1881 census with the Bookton Cemetery transcription, William appears to be the son of William Hillard 1823-1902 and Ann Davis1825-1912.1
