Descendants of John Hamilton (1797-1871)
      John Hamilton was born on 25 January 1836 at Ardclinis, Co Antrim, Ireland.3 He was the son of John Hamilton and Rose McCarney.1,2 He has also been reported to have been born on 2 June 1835.4 He immigrated to Ontario with his parents John Hamilton and Rose McCarney in 1847.5 He married Maria Quigley. He and Maria Quigley lived on a farm on The Stone Road (now Hwy 42), outside Westport, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario. This house is still there.6 He died on 21 February 1920 of influenza and pneumonia at Westport, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario, at age 84.4

Research Note: The 1871 census shows a 2 yr old son named John Edison. Censuses from 1881 onwards show a son named John born in 1872. I have assumed that the first son named John died prior to 1872 when the second son was born.
