John Hamilton

      John Hamilton was born on 25 January 1836 at Ardclinis, Co Antrim, Ireland.^2,3 He was the son of John Hamilton and Rose McCarney.^1,2 He immigrated to Ontario with his parents John Hamilton and Rose McCarney in 1847 with their 8 children.⁴ He appeared on the 1851 Census of Loughborough Twp, Frontenac County, Ontario, in the household of John Hamilton and Rose McCarney.⁵ He appeared on the 1861 Census of Bedford Twp, Frontenac County, Ontario, in the household of John Hamilton.⁶ He married Maria Quigly. He and Maria Quigly lived at a farm on The Stone Road (now Hwy 42), outside Westport, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario. This house is still there.⁷ He appeared on the 1871 Census of Bedford Twp, Frontenac County, Ontario, Page 71 line 3.⁸ He appeared on the 1881 Census of Bedford Twp, Frontenac County, Ontario.⁹ He appeared on the 1891 Census of North Crosby Twp, Leeds County, Ontario.¹⁰ He appeared on the 1901 Census of North Crosby Twp, Leeds County, Ontario.³ He appeared on the 1911 Census of North Crosby Twp, Leeds County, Ontario, in the household of John Hamilton.¹¹ He died after 1915; he appears in a photo taken in 1915.⁷

Research Note: The 1871 census shows a 2 yr old son named John Edison. Censuses from 1881 onwards show a son named John born in 1872. I have assumed that the first son named John died prior to 1872 when the second son was born.
