Joseph Rankin Gibbins
     Joseph Rankin Gibbins was born on 19 April 1833 at Clark County, Arkansas.2 He was the son of Samuel Gibbins and Mary Crow. He married Lillian Augusta Graves, daughter of Roswell Graves and Eugenia C Clapp, on 3 January 1883 at San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.3 He died at his son's home in, Big Valley, Lassen County, California, on 30 May 1885 of a gunshot fired by Shasta Co, California Sheriff's Deputy Greenlee who had been attempting to arrest him for attempted murder; Greenlee was killed by Joseph during the gunfight.1,4 He was buried at Lookout Cemetery, Lookout, Modoc County, California.2
