Harold Broder
     Harold Broder's full name was John Harold Broder. He was born on 12 September 1892 at La Conner, Skagit County, Washington.1,2,3 He was the son of John Broder and Alice Mary Graves.1,2,4 He graduated from the high school at Friday Harbor, San Juan County, Washington, in 1913. He registered for the draft on 5 June 1917 at Friday Harbor, San Juan County, Washington; he claimed exemption as a theology student. Harold Broder was a student at Walla Walla College in 1918.5

He married Mabel Octella Hallberg on 27 September 1920 at Vancouver, British Columbia.3 The 12 May 1921 edition of the North Pacific Union Gleaner reported that Harold Broder had assumed the principalship of the Forest Home School in Tiger, Pend Oreille County, Washington.6 He and Mabel Octella Hallberg adopted Christopher Nicolas McGlashan and Eldine McGlashan about 1930 at Alaska.7 He registered for the draft on 27 April 1942 at Seattle, King County, Washington. He lived at Centralia, Lewis County, Washington, in 1958.8 He was a teacher at Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. He lived at Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, in 1971.2 He died on 16 March 1971 at Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, at age 78.1,2,4

Harold's obituary in the The North Pacific Union Gleaner read:
"Broder - John Harold Broder was born at LaConner, Wash, Sept. 12, 1892 and died March 16, 1971 in Santa Cruz, Calif. He was a teacher for several years in Alaska, Oregon and Washington. Survivors: wife, Mabel; son, Pastor Ernest Broder; brother, Percy C of Seattle, Wash."9

A similar obituary appeared in the Union Pacific Recorder; it also reported that he was survived by 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.10

He was buried on 18 March 1971 at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.1
