Cornelius W Gibson

     Cornelius W Gibson was born about 1817 at Canada.^1,2 He married second Sarah Elizabeth Clapp, daughter of Hiram Clapp and Rhoda Striker.³ In the 1860s Cornelius W Gibson and his family immigrated to the United States stopping first in Iowa before moving on to Kansas.⁴ He died on 6 July 1897 of cerebral haemorrhage at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington.² He was buried at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, Spokane County, Washington.²

Research Note: Cornelius' first child, Willliam, was born c 1838; Cornelius' wife Sarah Elizabeth Clapp was born in 1826 so she would have been 12 yrs old when William was born. I believe Cornelius was previously married and his first 4 children were by his first wife.

Research Note: Cornelius' death record says his parents were Cornelius W Gibson born in Brighton, Canada and Sarah E Clapp born in Waterloo, NY. I believe this is an error; I suspect that when his daughter Alma was providing the information she was asked "Father's name?" and "Mother's name?" and gave her parents' names rather than his.
