Roswell Graves was born on 18 March 1799 at Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut.2 He was the son of Benjamin Graves and Lucy Arnold.1 He has also been reported to have been born on 2 July 1799 at New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. He married Mary Ann Betts, daughter of Christian Betts and Elizabeth Birch, on 20 March 1820 at Jamestown, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.1 He was a Carpenter in 1850.3 He was the superintendant of the county poor farm at Grant County, Wisconsin, between 1854 and 1858. He was also a Methodist preacher according to his son Roswell's obituary.4 He lived at Haney, Crawford County, Wisconsin, in 1880. He died on 15 February 1882 at Haney, Crawford County, Wisconsin, at age 82.5 He has also been reported to have died on 18 February 1882 at age 82.1 He was buried at Graves Cemetery, Crawford County, Wisconsin.
