Marriages performed by Rev. S. Stewart of the M.E. Church (Methodist Episcopal Church - the difference between the M.E. Methodists and the Wesleyans was that the M.E.'s had bishops.)

John Main, age 20, residing Beverly, born Waterloo (probably in the township, but not necessarily. Could be town of Waterloo, or even town of Preston). Parents George and Margt. Main.
Mary Person, age 17, residing Beverly, born Dundas (near Hamilton). Parents Charles and Arabel Person. Witnesses Robt. Clement and Eliza Main, both residing Beverly. On Nov 18, 1863.

The marriage was almost certainly performed in Beverly Township, possibly at the residence of John and Harriet Gamble, or at the M.E. Church in Troy.

Name of parents or their places of birth unknown. Burial Decker Cemetery June 19, 1913. Informant A.H. Winnie, RFD 3, Remus, Michigan (the word Remus is poorly written.)

According to the will of Charles Person, Mary Person's middle name was Malinda, so spelled.

Amos Winnie gives the year of Mary's birth as 1846. Based on the 1851 census and her marriage registration, 1848 is rather more likely. A photo of the Main stone in Decker cemetery isn't completely clear, but does appear to read 5 July 1848 for a date of birth. June 17, 1913, is shown as Mary's date of death.

Considering the order in which the children are listed in the 1851 census at Hamilton, and the collision of birth dates if the dates of gravestones are accurate, then the gravestone inscriptions are generally followed here. This may not be entirely factual.
