Jane's date of birth is calculated based on her age as given on her death registration. This places her year of birth in 1823, which may or may not be accurate, but since her family was living in Beverly Township from much earlier, she was almost certainly born in Beverly Township. Again, we do not have a marriage record for Jane and John, but son James shows his place of birth as Beverly on his marriage registration. James' approximate year of birth was 1842 and it seems likely that John and Jane were married in Beverly. When Jane's parents sold their property in Beverly in 1842 and, on the same day, purchased land in Garafraxa Township it is possible that other family members went with them immediately. What we do know is that Arents and Mary sold or transferred land to John Ellis in Garafraxa on Mary 16, 1848. This was the NE 1/2 of lot 18 on the 3rd concession of Garafraxa. Son John Ellis is shown on his death registration as being born in November of 1844 in Beverly. So it appears that, for at least a time, John and Jane remained in Beverly before following her parents to Garafraxa. The Ellis family has not been found, however, in the 1842 Beverly census. |
