Eliza Jane Person

ID # 1318, (1837-)
FatherCharles Person (1804-1855)
MotherArabella Morrison (1819-1852)
BaptismEliza Jane Person was baptized in 1837 at Canada.
NoteThe 1851 census shows for Eliza a second name which is smudged. We may safely say that her given names were Eliza Jane. (See GS170 Deeds Vol C, 1854-56, 1856 nbr. 2042, Westminster Twp., Middlesex County). Her name appears in the sidebar of registration along with her siblings. This is essentially a re-entry of Charles' will in the deed book.

It is tempting to confuse Eliza Jane with the name of Charles' second wife, Eliza Cassaday. As of December 24, 1856, Eliza Cassaday Person is still living, for she is mentioned along with the executors as a principal in the sale of Charles' Westminster Township property to Peter Filman. (See GS171 Deeds Vol D, 1856-1858 nbr. 2219.) Unfortunately, the children's names are not mentioned in this document.

A birth year of 1838, based on Eliza's age at the time of the 1851 census, might be a guess, however the family gravestone presents us with, presumeably, a child of Charles and Arabella named Hannah L. Person, 1838-1840. We are probably on safe ground listing this child and so she is included here. Based on birth years for the other children, as they conflict with the 1851 census and gravestones, a birth year of 1837 is assumed for Eliza. At best, it's a guess.

What became of Eliza Jane remains to be unravelled. She has yet to be found in the 1861 Canadian census.
