Vermicie's pension petition states that Nancy Jane was adopted by a man by the name of Charles Mitchell who lived on the 'Little Blue' (presumeably in Nebraska). A later record for Nancy has yet to be found, but she is probably the Nancy Jane Mitchell, age 16, who appears as the daughter of S.P. and Amanda Mitchell at Big Creek Township, Neosho County, Kansas, in the 1880 census. |
