NoteIda Reed's transcription of the Wesleyan Methodist Baptism Registers provides us with dates of birth and baptism for Elam Froman. His parents are shown as Henry and Catherine and Catherine's maiden name is not given. The transcription shows his name as Olam, but this will be a handwriting problem.

In 1851, Henry was single and living in Galt. By the time of the 1861 census, Henry is married to Catherine and they reside in Beverly Township. The baptism record for Elam shows the family's current residence and the birth place of the child as Dumfries. The record does not show the county, but rather shows them as being in the Gore District. By 1854, this was obsolete, so we do not know if the family resided in North or South Dumfries which were in Waterloo and Brant counties respectively.

The 1861 census in Beverly Township describes Henry as being Episcopal Methodist, but Catherine and the children as Wesleyan Methodist. The Methodist church at St. George seems the most likely place for Elam's baptism. The 1861 census shows Elam's younger siblings Mary and George. The transcription of the Wesleyan Methodist baptisms does not record their names.

Elam in his earlier years appears to have used the spelling Froman. From the 1910 census on, we find that he was spelling the name as Frooman. This is used in this record.

Elam was at Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, in 1910. The census indicates that he was married twice. His wife, Lottie M., is shown as being married once and having borne one child. They are shown as being married 14 years, so we show the year of marriage as 1896. This is approximate. To date, no record has been found for the marriage of Elam and his first wife.
