| Note | The 1861 census in Beverly presents Mary Miers as age 6. This would mean that she was born in approximately 1855. Her gravestone, next to her mother's, reads: Mary Ellen Miers died 5 Sept 1870, age 11 Yrs., 2 Mos., 21 dys. Dau of Elijah and Lydia A. If the stone is correct, then Mary was born in 1859. It's tempting to wonder if the 1861 enumerator mixed up her age with that of Martha, but Martha is shown as age 12 at the time of the 1871 census, so this is unlikely. |
