Aaron S. Pettit

ID # 2090, (1856-)
FatherIsaac Pettit (1817-)
MotherMercy Vrooman (1822-1901)
BaptismAaron S. Pettit was baptized in 1856 at Canada.
NoteThe 1860 census at Croton Township, Newaygo County, Michigan, shows Aaron with the middle initial of S. For the moment, it's a guess, but the S. likely stands for Schuyler. He is almost certainly named after Mercy's father, but with the given name Arents anglicized to Aaron. Another example of this is a son of James Vrooman and Rhoda Johnston. They named a son Aaron, almost certainly after James' brother Arents. This census shows Aaron as being born in Canada. He will have gone with his family to Michigan as an infant.

The 1870 census at Croton Township, Newaygo County, shows, apparently, a son Charles, age 14. Aaron is not present in this census. Charles would be approximately Aaron's age. There is no doubt a story here, but just what it might be is probably lost to us.
