NoteJoseph Orley appears in the 1891 and 1901 in Perry Twp. in Muskoka and Parry Sound censuses. There, he is with his first wife Hannah.

His age is questionable, but his age in the 1891 census would calculate an approximate birth year of 1857. The 1901 census would have him born about 1859. His age on his marriage registration in 1905 suggests that he was born in 1863.

In 1916 he signed up for the Canadian Army and lowballed his age considerably by stating his birth year as 1874. He evidently survived the war, for he is shown on an 1918 passenger list for the Tunisian sailing from London to Quebec City.

There is a stone for him in Emsdale - Emmanual United Church Cemetery in Perry Township which reads:
P.J. Orley/Bugler/Reg.#657685/162nd Btt/Great War/1914-1918

Joseph's attestation papers are of interest. He states that he is Joseph Orey of Emsdale, Ontario. He was born in Naples, Italy, in 1874. His next of kin is his wife, Albia Orley of Emsdale, Ontario. He is a farmer and is said to have spent five years in the Italian Navy.

The stone in the cemetery does not give his date of death. There is no evidence from the cemetery photos provided by the Gravemarker Gallery website for a gravestone for Albia. At a guess, Joseph is buried there as is Hannah Gibson, his first wife.
