| Note | At first glance, the evidence that Solomon Field is the son of Gilbert Chrysler Field and Rebecca Eleanor Vrooman while compelling is circumstantial. Little of the 1851 census for Beverly Township has survived. In 1861, Solomon and his wife Elizabeth are in Windham Township in Norfolk County. He is shown as a farmer and their daughter Frances, age 4, is with them. By 1871, Solomon is back in Beverly Township. In this census, Solomon is shown as the head of the house and Elizabeth and Frances are with him, but also with the family are Gilbert C. Field and his wife Elizabeth, ages 63 and 66 respectively. In 1881, Solomon Field and his wife Elizabeth are on their own. Gilbert C. Field purchased lot 29 of the first concession of Beverly from George Field, the patent holder, on 13 November 1830. The one page viewed of the Abstract index does not show the transfer of the property to Solomon, but the 'antique map' as provided by McGill University shows Solomon Field as owning this piece of property. Also, Solomon was the informant in the deaths of his father and of his step-mother. Direct information as to Solomon's relationship to Gilbert is to be found in the Pioneers of Beverly by John A. Cornell, Centennial Edition, reprint, page 83 in the chapter The Copetown Letter, shows information as supplied by David Cope of St. George. Solomon Field is directly refered to as the son of Gilbert C. Field. Death reg. 031351-08 Dundas, Wentworth County Solomon Field died May 13, 1908. Age 74, residence Park, Methodist. Farmer, married. The Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides us with a transcription of Solomon's gravestone in Grove Cemetery, Dundas, Lower Terrace Level. Buried with Solomon and Elizabeth are their daughter and son-in-law.
