Earl Stanley Grieves born 3 Sept 1904. Father Rufus Grieves. Mother Annie Himes. Residence Chalmers Street. Father's occupation moulder. Physician H. F. MacKendrick. Informant Mrs. John Himes.

Earl's grandparents, John and Lavinia Himes, lived on Chalmers Street. So, however, in this era, John Himes Jr., the brother of Annie, lived on Chalmers Street with his wife Nell Godfrey. It is possible that the child's grandmother was the informant, but it's rather more likely that Nell, John Jr.'s wife, was the informant.

Death reg. 0294421-08 Galt, Waterloo Co.
Earl Grieves died January 17, 1908. Age 3-1/2 years. Residence Chalmers Street. Methodist. Born Galt. Cause of death croup, a week. Father Rufus Grieves. Physician and informant H. F. MacKendrick M.D.

The child's name is shown as Grieves on both his birth and death registration. The correct name, however, was certainly Grieve and is spelled as Grieve on his gravestone in Mountview Cemetery, Galt.

The earliest available Galt directory (Vernon's) is dated 1910 and Rufus and Annie do not appear in it. The U. S. Census for 1910 shows Rufus and Annie in Flint and tells that the came to the U.S. in 1908. It's evident that they left Canada within months of Earl's death.
