| Note | The 1851 census in South Dumfries, Brant County, Ontario, shows 'Sary Jane', age 1. Since the question that the enumerator was supposed to ask was: What is your age as of your next birthday; and since the 1851 census was actually taken in January of 1852, we may reasonably believe that the child had not reached her first birthday. Indeed, she may well have been a newborn. The form states that she was born in Canada, which is the best we can say. She does not appear again with the family in later census years and she probably did not survive. A grave for her has not been found. |
