| Note | The source for George's date of birth is the 1901 census as taken at Town of Petrolia, Lambton County. George's death registration has questionable points, but given that he appears in the 1901 census at Petrolia, but not thereafter, what follows, reasonably, is the death registration of George: Death reg. 014132-03 Petrolia, Lambton Co. George Laurason died May 26, 1903. Age 55. Residence Pet. St. Engineer, single, Methodist. Born Troy, NY. Cause of death consumption 2 years 9 months. Physician and informant (ill written) Dr. J. Duufield. Indexing shows his name as Lamason, but 'Laurason' is clearly written. This spelling was sometimes used by different family members. His father, Lawrence Purvis Lawrason, appears in the 1851 census for Beverly at lot1 of concession 6 in Beverly Township. This is not far from the village of Troy. It's entirely reasonable that George was born near Troy, Ontario. Someone, somewhere, along the chain of responsibility, threw in New York probably because they'd quite simply heard of it, but hadn't heard of Troy, Ontario. How it came to be that he was entered on the form as being single is anyone's guess. Reasonably, he's Roxy's husband. We will note here that the information was entered on a form in use from approximately 1895 to 1905. The information collected was minimal at best. |
