Col. A fuller list of the children is provided in the 1916 publication, Papers and Records of the Wentworth Historical Society, Vol. 7, Hamilton. Several pages, beginning at page 39 tell the story. The chapter is headed Michael Showers: Loyalist, Ranger, Citizen, by J. H. Smith. Mr. Smith was a descendant of Michael's and stated that in his childhood re remembered several of Michael Showers' children, for they would, from time to time, visit with his grandfather. He gives an expanded list of Michael's children, expanded compared to the list above. It's evident from the list that the oldest daughter, Sarah, was married in 1782. Lana as shown in the above list is, reasonably, Magdalene, as she appears in Smith's list. One inconsistency is that the above list shows Michael as being age 50 in 1783. This would place his birth in 1733. Smith states that Michael was born in 1733. The above Crowder list shows 7 children. Smith's expanded list shows 10. Daughter Sarah is away and married. After Mary came Katy and Daniel. Smith states that there were 12 children, but his list only names 10. |
