Wentworth County Marriage Register

Extracted from a brief list of marriages solemnized by Rev'd. F. M. Smith of the Episcopal Methodist Church for February of 1869

Ralph 'Martin', 39, born England, residing Beverly. Parents Ralph and Mary Martin.
Emma 'Wisner', 40, born and residing Beverly. Parents Peter and Maria Wisner.
Witnesses James and Ellen Sager, both of Beverly.
On Feby. 17, 1869.

The only reasonable explanation for the misspellings above would be that the recording clerk at Hamilton had difficulty reading the handwriting of Rev. Smith. They are Ralph Morton, and of course the witness, Ellen Sager, was Emma's sister and James Sager was Emma's brother-in-law.

DeathShe died on 22 August 1897 at age 69.
BurialShe was buried at Westover United Church Cemetery.
NoteThe gravestone for Emma Misener Morton in Westover United Church Cemetery in Beverly Township is attractive with a clear inscription. It reads:

In memory of Emma Morton who died Augut 22nd 1897 aged 69 years 2 mos. & 22 days.

Emma's step-son's inscription (that of Ralph Morton Jr.) is on the reverse of her gravestone and they are evidently buried together. Young Ralph does not appear to have married.

A death registration for Emma has not been found.
