| Note | Darius death registration is 019840-11. It does not give his place of birth. It is specific about his date of birth and so this is used in place of census information. It is at variance by about two years with the 1861 census. His residence is given as Concession 2, lot 11, in Caradoc. His parents are named as William H. Coleman and Elizabeth Cope. No birth place is given for either. The informant is Mrs. Emily C. Coleman and her residence appears to be Lowell, Wash. This awaits clarification. Here is a transcription for the family of Darius and Emily at the time of the 1881 census: Darias Coleman, 43, farmer, Episcopal Methodist Emely Coleman 34, ' William A. Coleman, 14 ' Angus Coleman, 12, ' James Coleman, 10 ' The 1871 census shows a son Clarence being born in March of 1871. It's entirely possible that this is James. If his age is correctly shown, then likely he had two given names. Daughter Cate, shown in the 1891 census, doesn't appear here. The story at this point is unknown. She is shown as age 12 in 1891, but perhaps her age was incorrectly given, or written. No birth registration for Cate has been found. |
