NoteAn obituary for Lucy appears in Donald McKenzie's Vol. 10, Obituaries from the Christian Guardian, 1884-1890, Global Heritage Press, 2011. This quotes the July 13, 1887 issue of the Christian Guardian, page 443. This states that Mrs. Lucy Cornell, nee Waite was born on the shore of Lake Champlain in 1805.

At least one later sibling, Jonathan Wait Jr., is said to have been a native of Plattsburgh, New York, and this town is on Lake Champlain.

Of interest in this obituary is the statement that her parents first came to Canada in 1817 and settled at Black Creek. They then moved to South Dumfries where Lucy married Smith Cornell in 1823. It is mentioned that they lived in Dumfries, Windham and Blenheim. We are told that she died April 16, 1887, at the residence of her son-in-law John Thompson in Brantford.

A note here with reference to Black Creek:

Most likely, the Black Creek referred to in the obituary was located in Willoughby Township in the Niagara District. A post office was located there between 1854 and 1916. The village was on the Niagara River. The town of Chippawa straddles Willougby and Stamford Townships, and when Lucy's brother Samuel married Anna Shoup in 1823 they were both said to be of Willoughby. We do not know if the whole family was there at that time.
