Extracted from a list of marriages of Rev. James Harris, of the city of Toronto, Presbyterian minister, solemnized between March of 1835 and March of 1836.

William Barber of Flamborough West and Anne Maw of the Gore of Toronto were married on Feb. 11, 1836, at city of Toronto, by license. Witnesses George Tabulin and Rachel Pecket.

The names of the witnesses are difficult to decipher. Tabulin and Pecket are better than guesses, but not by much.

The handwriting of the registrar is difficult at best. Note that Rev. James Harris was of the city of Toronto and that most of the marriages performed by this clergyman were performed in the city of Toronto. It is also evident from the different marriage locations that Rev. Harris did travel to perform marriages. Gore of Toronto gets no mention as a marriage location, though Township of Toronto does. Beyond that, the register page locations of marriages contain a liberal amount of ditto marks. Since the information will have been entered by the registering clerk from information received from Rev. Harris it's tempting to wonder at the accurary. Still, City of Toronto is shown as the location of the marriage of William and Ann, and is probably correct.

Please note that the city of Toronto, the Gore of Toronto, and the Township of Toronto, were three different places, the latter two being in what became Peel County.

DeathShe died on 1 August 1851 at age 35.
BurialShe was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown.
NoteShe Familysearch has a database, transcription only, entitled England Births and Christenings, 1538-1935. This provides for us the baptism of Ann Maw, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth, at Ellerburne in Yorkshire, England. It dates her baptism to March 4, 1816.

We have a record of marriage for Anne Maw and William Barber dated February 11, 1836, at the City of Toronto (see marriage notes.)

Ann Maw is included in the list of children for Robert and Elizabeth mainly because one of the executors of the will of Robert Maw Sr. is William Barber. Add to that, Ann and William are buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown in the Barber plot and next to the graves of Maria Maw and her husband Joseph Barber. The evidence is circumstantial, but compelling.

The transcription of Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown, appears on microfilm MS451 reel 98. See page 16-118.

William Barber died Aug 26 1887 aged 78 yrs 6 mos.
his wife Anne died Aug 1 1851 aged 35 yrs 5 mos 9 das,

Ann's date of birth is calculated from her age as shown in the transcription.
