ID # 4357, (1845-1865)
|Father||Duncan Ferguson (1803-1884)|
|Mother||Margaret Hastie (1805-1873)|
|Birth||James Ferguson was born in 1845.|
|Death||He died on 22 May 1865 at North Dumfries Township, Waterloo County.|
|Burial||He was buried at Section 2, Mountview Cemetery, Galt.|
|Note||Mountview Cemetery was not established at the time of the death of James. He was likely buried in First Church Presbyterian Cemetery at High Park and then his remains and stone moved to Mountview when the High Park Cemetery was razed in the early 1880s.|
He is buried with other Ferguson family members in Section 2 of Mountview. The Waterloo County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribes his gravestone as follows:
In Memory Of James son of Duncan & Margaret Ferguson who died May 22, 1865 in the 21st year of his age.
Add to that, Rosemary Ambrose provides us with a transcription of death notices from the Dumfries Reformer, 1860-1865. The issue of the paper dated 24 May, 1865, conveys essentialy the same information as his stone, but does locate the family at Mill Creek. McGill University's Canadian County Atlas Digital Project does indeed locate Mill Creek as running through lot 5 of the 12th concession of North Dumfries. The atlas quoted seems to date from 1881. The locale of this farm should now be well within the city boundaries of Cambridge and developed. It is believed that the Ferguson farm house still survives.
