Washington L. Wood
ID # 4368
| Marriage | Washington L. Wood married Christiana Buchanan, daughter of John Buchanan and Margaret McArthur, on 18 January 1844 at Dumfries Township, Gore District. |
| Note | We have no information for Washington Wood beyond the First Church record of his marriage to Christiana. The 1834 Dumfries assessment does show a Samuel Wood with property in Dumfries, but he may be of the Samuel Wood family in Beverly Township. Beverly borders Dumfries to the east. Such information as we have for the Samuel Wood family of Beverly does seem to preclude this connection. Christiana is with her sister Susannah and Susannah's husband Dransfield Thornton in the 1851 census. The statistical page that follows the page with the names seems to indicate that she is married. The 1860 census at Grand Rapids shows her as Christiann Wood, domestic, but says nothing as to her marital status. Not long after the census, she married Lysander Bradish. The Kent County marriage registration that we have shows her as a widow and so we must believe that Washington Wood is deceased. As with Lysander, we have no certain later record for Washington Wood. That there was a divorce from one or both of Christiana's husbands remains a possibility. Certainly, her gravestone in Mountview Cemetery shows her as the wife of L. S. Bradish, but there is no evidence that he is buried there. |
