| Note | The date of Stephen's birth, November 3, 1849, is taken from the inscription on his gravestone in Section 1 of Mountview Cemetery. He is buried with his parents in the Moffatt family plot. Stephen Moffatt's baptism is to be found in First Church records, now in the United Church Archives. The record of this baptism appears on microfilm LCM-30. The parents of these children are not named in the early baptism records. Interestingly, Stephen, son of Thomas, was baptized in December of 1849. The same page records the baptism of his probably younger nephew, Stephen Thompson Moffatt, on April 21, 1850. This latter child died in 1869 at age 19. Stephen, son of Thomas Moffatt and Stephen Buchanan lived to 1903. Death reg. 027046-03 North Dumfries, Waterloo Co. Stephen Moffatt, April 10, 1903, age 52 years, Concession 9, lots 1 and 2.
