| Note | Our information for Sarah comes from an inscription on her gravestone, originally at Harvie Cemetery, but now at Sheffield Cemetery: In memory of / Sarah, wife of Robert / M. Carrick Daughter of / Donald and Is.l Fraser who / died Sept. 12, 1848 aged / 25 years. 9 months and 4 days / Be thou faithful unto death and I / will give the [sic] a crown of life. / Also of Jane H. Carrick who died / Sept. 1st 1848 aged 1 year / 10 months and 8 days / The Lord hath given and the Lord / hath taken away / Sarah seems to have been the second daughter of Donald Fraser and his wife Isabella Fraser. They were something like second cousins and had the same surname prior to their marriage. They both died in North Dumfries in 1884. The Waterdown-East Flamborough Heritage Society, in September of 1996, published Flamborough Obituary Notices, 1835 - 1859, Records from the former townships of Beverly and East and West Flamborough. Page 1 has an extract from the September 20, 1848, issue of the Globe, Toronto, which reads: Carrick: On Tuesday, 12th inst., Sarah, wife of Robert Carrick, Beverly Township. The Globe & Mail Archives, available via Toronto Library's web site, has the page. The above death notice is readable, though barely, for the page scanned badly. |
