| Note | John Wesley Hunt married Mary Wilson in 1874. The 1881 census shows John and Mary in North Dumfries Township with children Elizabeth J., age 6, and James M., age 4. John married Mary's older sister Elizabeth in 1884, so we must believe that Mary was deceased by this time, though no registration of death has been found. Transcriptions of area cemeteries have also been examined, but no gravestone for Mary has been found. In 1891, John and Elizabeth are in the village of Ayr. With them are Elizabeth Jane, age 16, and James Melvin, age 14. They are evidently Mary's children, and so it appears that John had no children with Elizabeth. When John Wesley Hunt married Elizabeth Wilson, she was said to be resident in Ayr. It's entirely a guess, but it's possible that she went to stay with the family after her sister's death and then at some point she and John married. |
