| Note | The 1891 census is confusing. Alexander and Edith (Nelly) were married in 1889. She is in the Theron Buchanan household as Nelly Buchanan, age 22 and married. Alexander is listed separately and shown as single. Since their marriage registration is clear, we may take it that this is an enumerator's error. Edith Ellen Baptie was the daughter of David Baptie, clerk for the township of South Dumfries, and Jane Van Every. David and Jane were married in Dumfries Township of the Gore District on 25 July 1849. The witnesses were Charles Van Every and Richard Green.
