Alexander Garroch died November 4, 1910 at the Galt Hospital. Age 77. Born September 1st, 1833, at Prescott, Ontario. Commercial Traveller. Single. Parents James Garrock and Catherine McCormick, both born Scotland. Physician Dr. J. S. Wardlaw, Galt. Informant Anthony Garrock.

The death registration clearly shows Alexander's place of birth as Prescott and with the information presently available he is apparently the first of the Garroch children born in Canada. Alexander's older brother John was born in Scotland and as of the 1901 census he was in Moore Township in Lambton County. The census states that he came to Canada in 1833. Considering that he would have been age 2, he was certainly with his parents.

Prescott is in the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville, which, at the time of Alexander's birth was the Johnstown District. Prescott is on the St. Lawrence River and at the south end of Augusta Township. As explained in notes for Alexander's father, the family was in Beverly Township of the Gore District from 1835. With the name Beverly, there is room for confusion. The present day village of Delta in Leeds County was named 'Beverley' from 1831 to 1857. (The history of names for Delta is rather more colourful than stated, but this will be enough for a caution.) There is nothing to indicate that the family ever spent any time in Beverley in Leeds County.

See Familysearch' microfilm 008189734. This shows abstract index information for the village of Sheffield. Alexander Garroch held an interest in portions of village lots 5 and 6 from 1864 to 1880.
