Married, born Ontario on Feb. 15, 1863. Farmer. Wife's name Martha Hill. Parents William Thomas Rath, born Ontario, and Mary Elizabeth Titus, Born United States (?) Physician Dr. E. J. Gordon. Informant Miss Edith Rath, St. George, daughter. Burial Sept. 25, 1937, in St. George United Cemetery. James' year of birth appears on his death registration as 1863. It is shown on the 1901 census in Artemisia Township, Grey County, as 1864. This is rather more likely to be correct. Also, census information shows his birth to be in Ontario and this is the more likely correct. Add to that, his year of birth is inscribed on his gravestone in St. George Cemetery as 1864. James' mother, Mary Elizabeth Titus, is shown as being born in the United States. Marriage information places her birth in Norwich Township. |
