James Burnet died 18 May, 1889. Age 54, merchant, Presbyterian. Born Scotland. Physician Dr. Green. Informant R. Burnet.

James' surname is sometimes found with two T's. Interestingly, due to handwriting or microfilming issues, it has been otherwise interpreted as 'Bennett'. A photograph of James and Almira's gravestone is to be found on Find-a-Grave and one T is used, as with the death registration.

The 1871 census for Glenelg Township shows James as a farmer; the 1881 census shows him as a merchant; the 1891, shows Almira as a widow and as a grocer.

The McGill Digital County Map project appears to be working from an 1880 gazetteer. Looking over the list of names for residents (property holders) at either the level of the county of Grey or the townships of Glenelg or Bentinck, the Burnet name does not appear. Considering that the family was apparently in the grocery business, they may have been located in the village of Durham which straddles the townships of Glenelg and Bentinck. According to an index provided by the Archives of Ontario, the Durham Cemetery, where James and Almira are buried, is actually located in Bentinck Township.

James' date of birth is calculated from his age as shown at date of death on his gravestone: He died May 18, 1889, and his age is shown as 54 years, 1 month, and 16 days.
