| Note | Jesse and Elizabeth Bray are buried in St. George Cemetery. Jesse's date of death on his gravestone is May 9, 1844. His age is shown as 47 years, 9 months and 21 days. His date of birth, probably approximate, is calculated from this. Elizabeth's date of death is shown as January 30, 1841, and her age is given as 34 years, 10 months, and 7 days. Buried with them is Jesse M. Bray, age 5 months and 15 days. This calculates to 9 February, 1841, for his date of birth. Since he is clearly shown as the son of J. & E. Bray, this will be a miscalculation of his correct age. This does assume that Elizabeth's date of death is correctly shown and which it probably is. Young Jesse must have been born a good ten days earlier than the calculation would represent. A John Bray is on lot 14 of concession 3 of Dumfries Township as of the 1832 census of Dumfries Township East of the Grand River. Jesse and John Bray appear in the 1834 assessment roll for Dumfries Township. It should be mentioned here that buried in St. George Cemetery is a James Kitchen, 1791-1868. With him is his wife Cornelia Bray, 1792-1874. |
