County marriage registrations typically do not provide the exact location of a given marriage. Rev. Geddes, however, was the rector of Christ's Church Cathedral in Hamilton and the witnesses are both of Hamilton. This has the earmarks of an elopement. Neither bride nor groom are Anglican, but, for whatever reason, were married by an Anglican clergyman, probably in Hamilton.

William's mother is shown as Adelia. There was a slip of the pen by someone, for Adelia (Wood) was William's first wife. William's marriage register with Adelia, dated 1864, shows his parents as William and Elizabeth, and this is probably correct.
