The above death registration has two problems. The first is that Sarah's date of birth was September 5, 1845. It may be that entering the date of birth on the registration, the person doing the entry picked up on her age and wrote 1864 as her year of birth. As it happens, the way her age is written, 64 yrs., 7 mos., and 19 days, calculates to a date in June of 1845. This at least gets her year of birth right. Since we find her date of birth, Sept 5, 1845, in the 1901 census in South Dumfries, and since she gave this herself, it is likely correct. Certainly a birth year of 1864 is wildly incorrect. The other problem is that her place of death is shown as Beverly Township. Since the physician, Dr. Morrison, is obviously of Copper Cliff, and since the medical portion of the form shows a history of Dr. Morrison's attendance, we may then take it that Beverly Township was inadvertently entered as a place of death when it was in fact Sarah's place of birth. Finally, Robert Benson was Sarah's son-in-law. At a guess, a newspaper account of Sarah's passing will exist and perhaps may yet be found. |
