Lewis Wood died May 22nd, 1876, age 23. Student. Methodist. Born Beverly. Drowned. Informant Rev. D. E. Brownell of St. George.

Young Lewis is buried in St. George Cemetery with his parents. The date of his death as inscribed on the family's gravestone agrees with his death registration. Beyond that, the Wood tree on page 32 of the Troy History tells that that he was single and studying to be a doctor, but that he was drowned in the Welland Canal. This last is at odds with the death registration, for the Welland Canal is nowhere near South Dumfries Township.

No death registration for him has been found in either Lincoln or Welland counties wherein the Welland Canal is located. The death registration is terse. The Troy history is probably correct, but a newspaper account of his death has yet to be found.
