NoteFor the following see C-2489, Vol. 400, Bundle P2, petition 6, images 00157-00154. The original petition filed by Henry Putman is dated at Newark (Niagara Town), 31 July 1795. For whatever reason, there were additions to the filed ranging over some years. In the original petition, Henry identifies himself as having served in the Corps of Rangers, commanded by Colonel Butler. The second portion of the petition asks for 200 acres for his wife, stating that her parents were 'within the lines' during the war. The next piece of documentation which has been added to the above is dated 1812 and identifies Henry Putman's wife Hannah as the daughter of Jacob Anguish and is hence entitled to 200 acres as the daughter of a United Empire Loyalist (DUE).

A further addition to this file dated 1796 tells that Henry Putman served in Butler's Rangers and that he had three children born before 1789. The signature is difficult to reads, but may be Geo. Forsyth, J.P.

Another document is attached to this petition. This was entered by John Crooks, a farmer in the Township of Vaughan. This is dated 24 August, 1812, at York in the Home District. He states that he is acquainted with Hannah Putman some thirty years. That she is 'now of the Township of Bertie, wife of Henry Putman of the same place'. He goes on the say that she is the daughter of Jacob Anquish who was at the peace in 1783 - 'that he died about six months thereafter at Niagara and was there buried.'

The above would date the death of Jacob Angush to some three years earlier than we can calculate from his wife's petition. For the time being, Jacob's approximate year of death is calculated from his wife Elizabeth's petition.
