| Note | John Warnock's baptism record is to be found at the United Church of Canada Archives. This appears on microfilm LCM-30 which is the imaging of the First Church Baptism book. First Church was one of the Presbyterian churches that joined with the United Church of Canada at the time of church union in 1925. First Church's baptism book begins in 1833, naming only the child and the date of baptism. The parents' names are not shown until 1855. Still, comparing the names with census, death and cemetery records, the parents of most children are made clear enough, and this is not a problem as it relates to the Warnock family. Death reg. 034172-26 Kitchener, Waterloo Co. John Warnock died April 1, 1926, at the Old Peoples Home in Kitchener. Age 93. Widowed(?) Born Dundas(?) on June 4, 1833 (John's date of birth was originally entered as April 1, 1926, his date of death. This was typed, but was subsequently corrected to June 4, 1833 which was entered by hand.) His occupation is shown as farmer. Parental information is marked 'Do not know'. Physician Dr. Frank R. Harvey, who, considering other entries on the page, was the physician of the home. Informant H. W. Martin, manager of the Old Peoples Home. Burial April 3 in Galt. Length of stay at the home two years. John's sister Mary Ann died in 1924 so after her passing he was likely unable to care for himself and went to the home. John's date of birth was corrected to June 4, 1833, and this will be correct. His date of birth is shown on the 1901 census in Galt as June 4...year illegible. That John Warnock Jr. was born in Dundas per the above death registration is almost certainly incorrect. He is recorded in First Church's records as being baptized on July 21, 1833. James Young's History of Galt and Dumfries places John Warnock (senior), 'a miller', in Galt at the time of the outbreak of cholera in the spring of 1834. That he was born elsewhere than Galt is possible, but seems unlikely. The above death registration shows John as being widowed. No record of marriage has been found for him. |
